Job summary

The Salvation Army in Harbor Light/IRU is seeking a Counselor Aide to support overnight supervision, client management, and non-clinical assistance to residents. This non-exempt role provides safety oversight and coordination of activities within the program environment.

Preferred candidate has at least one year of sobriety, strong communication skills, and a commitment to the organization’s mission. The position reports to the Intensive Programs Manager and requires flexibility for various

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and write.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work as a team member and well with others.
• Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
• A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in changing priorities.
• At least one year of sobriety required.
• Commitment to The Salvation Army mission and faith-based service.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the unit during nights, weekends and holidays.
• Monitor residents overnight for emergencies such as illness or fire.
• Contact 911 in medical or fire emergencies and evacuate if needed.
• Contact police if serious violence occurs between residents.
• Enforce house rules and unit schedule.
• Maintain the night log with incident reports.
• Schedule activities with residents on weekends and holidays.
• Attend staff meetings and development programs.
• May be scheduled to work any shift and weekends periodically.
• Cases assigned as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.
