Job summary

Barnes & Thornburg seeks an IP Docket Specialist with strong docketing experience for patents and trademarks. You will manage deadlines, maintain CPI-based IP files, and prepare reports under supervision in a busy IP department.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of IP docketing experience, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency with CPI/iManage, Word and Excel. Collaboration with foreign associates and USPTO staff is essential.

Qualifications

• Five years IP docketing experience required.
• Advanced understanding of patent and trademark prosecution process and deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain client confidentiality.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, iManage and CPI; PracticeLink preferred.
• Able to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor docketing inbox and notices from foreign agents or USPTO.
• Maintain CPi database for IP files including client and inventor updates.
• Download daily mail from PAIR.
• Compile reports for attorneys and assistants as needed.
• Follow up on loss of rights dates with attorneys and staff.
• Clear docketed dates promptly as tasks are completed.
• Add new matters to the docket system as opened.
• Review and docket newly filed applications.
• Maintain data integrity of CPi database.
• Assist with training and second-eye review of IP Docket Clerks’ work.
• Perform other related duties as required.
