Position Summary
The Inventory Supervisor oversees all inventory control activities to ensure accurate tracking, efficient material flow, and proper storage of products and supplies. This role leads inventory staff, maintains inventory systems, coordinates with production and purchasing teams, and ensures the facility has the materials needed to operate smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
- Oversee daily inventory operations including receiving, storing, issuing, and tracking materials.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation processes.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, and overages.
- Ensure proper labeling, organization, and storage of materials to support efficient workflow.
Leadership & Team Oversight
- Supervise inventory clerks, material handlers, and warehouse personnel.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide coaching and training.
- Enforce company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Support staffing needs, including scheduling and cross‑training.
System & Documentation Control
- Maintain accurate records in inventory management or ERP systems.
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry for receipts, transfers, adjustments, and shipments.
- Prepare inventory reports for management, including usage trends and stock levels.
- Support implementation of system improvements and process enhancements.
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with production, purchasing, logistics, and quality teams to ensure material availability.
- Communicate inventory issues or delays that may impact production schedules.
- Coordinate with suppliers and carriers on deliveries, returns, and material discrepancies.
- Participate in planning meetings to forecast material needs.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure warehouse and storage areas comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Promote safe material handling practices and enforce PPE requirements.
- Support incident investigations and corrective actions when needed.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of experience in inventory control, warehousing, or material management.
- Experience using inventory management or ERP systems.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in warehouse or manufacturing environments.
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial operations.
- Knowledge of Lean, 5S, or inventory optimization practices.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all inventory activities.
- Leadership with the ability to guide and develop a team.
- Analytical thinking for identifying trends and solving discrepancies.
- Time management and ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
Working Conditions
- Warehouse or manufacturing environment with exposure to forklifts, equipment, and varying temperatures.
- Requires standing, walking, lifting, and material handling.
- May require overtime or weekend work during inventory counts or peak periods.
