Job summary

Design Within Reach is seeking an Inventory Senior Accountant to oversee inventory accounting across multiple brands and locations in the US. You will ensure accurate recording of inventory and COGS under GAAP, perform reconciliations, and support audits, while coordinating physical inventories and improving controls.

You will work with the Finance Manager and Controller, analyzing variances, preparing reports, and training teams on inventory processes to strengthen overall accounting controls

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including inventory.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX controls.
• Ability to analyze financial information, investigate variances and resolve issues.
• Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve accounting or operational issues.
• Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and lookups.
• NetSuite experience preferred.
• Retail industry experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own key elements of the monthly inventory accounting close, including reconciliations, journal entries and accruals for inventory, COGS, movements, shrinkage and goods in transit.
• Maintain SOX-compliant controls and processes for inventory and COGS; identify gaps and improve controls.
• Analyze inventory and COGS variances; investigate discrepancies with Finance Manager and Controller.
• Coordinate and support physical inventory across brands and locations; train staff on inventory reporting.
• Prepare and analyze on-hand inventory reports; lead process-improvement initiatives for inventory accounting.
