Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Receiver / Inventory Control Clerk (ICC) to oversee Direct Store Delivery operations, ensuring items are received, counted, and stocked accurately.

You will walk the store daily to scan items, spot shortages or overages, and work with writers, night crew, merchandisers, and the File Maintenance Clerk to maintain inventory integrity and promotional execution. Strong attention to detail and communication are essential in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with receiving, tracking, and reconciling inventory in a retail or grocery setting.
• Basic computer skills including email and Excel; familiarity with store portals or inventory systems.
• Ability to monitor damaged, expired, or salvageable merchandise and process returns for credit.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain backroom cleanliness and security.
• Proven problem solving and independent decision making for inventory and deliveries.
• Effective communication with vendors, drivers, store management, and associates.

Responsibilities

• Oversee DSD operations to ensure merchandise is received, accounted for, and stocked.
• Walk the store daily to scan DSD items and identify out-of-stock or overstock conditions.
• Collaborate with order writers, night crew, merchandisers, and File Maintenance Clerk.
• Communicate regularly with the Store Director to support inventory accuracy and promotional execution.
• Monitor donations and manage grocery and non-perishable inventories.
• Maintain a secure, clean, and organized backroom and receiving areas.
