Job summary

Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a patient scheduling specialist to handle inbound calls, place outbound triage and scheduling calls, establish new patient appointments, and arrange follow-up visits with accuracy and empathy.

You will identify patients within the Eskenazi Health network, verify medical record numbers, document inquiries, and route requests to appropriate service areas, all while maintaining a professional, patient-centered approach.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in call center, patient registration, scheduling, health information management, or similar healthcare setting.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Certificate in medical terminology highly preferred.
• Availability for at least one weekend day per pay period for PRN coverage.
• Positive demeanor and exemplary customer service skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills appropriate to patient age groups.
• Basic mathematical and analytical skills.
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and follow instructions.
• Competency with standard office equipment, Windows, Word, Chrome, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Receive inbound and place outbound telephone triage and scheduling calls.
• Establish new patient/client well or healthcare appointments.
• Schedule return care appointments and handle other patient/client requests.
• Identify patients within the Eskenazi Health network.
• Provide age-appropriate service for neonatal to geriatric patients.
• Provide high-quality customer service.
• Schedule appointments and enter appointment dates and times.
• Respond quickly and escalate delays in resolving patient concerns.
• Answer telephone inquiries about Eskenazi Health, Specialty Clinics, and Ambulatory Care.
• Obtain and verify medical record numbers and direct inquiries to appropriate service areas.
• Document inquiries for medical, legal, and statistical purposes.
• Inform Connections nurses about callers with emergent symptoms and serve as clinic liaison.
• Explain patient obligation policies and direct patients without coverage to financial counselors.
