Job summary

Vaco by Highspring seeks an Interim Assistant Controller to oversee core accounting operations and support timely financial reporting. The role is hybrid with on-site expectations three days per week in San Jose, CA, for an approximate six-month duration with potential for conversion to permanent employment.

The candidate will lead month-end close, maintain GL integrity, review statements, and provide financial insights to operational leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including close processes.
• Experience in professional services or recurring revenue environments.
• Strong U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition, internal controls, and audits.
• Hands-on leadership with ERP, Excel, and cross-functional process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations and maintain the accuracy of the general ledger.
• Lead monthly and quarterly close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
• Evaluate contracts and revenue arrangements for proper recognition and accounting treatment.
• Analyze cost of sales, operating expenses, and other financial drivers for reporting and decisions.
• Maintain and enhance accounting policies, internal controls, and process documentation.
• Support external audits by preparing schedules and coordinating requests.
• Partner with leaders to provide financial insights and resolve accounting matters.
• Support business integration activities, including consolidation and systems standardization.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and close efficiency.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
