Interim Assistant Controller
Our client, a consumer products company, is seeking an Interim Assistant Controller to provide leadership and continuity across its accounting operations during a major systems transformation.
This role is on-site five days per week in the San Francisco East Bay. The role is anticipated to last approximately 12 months.
Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Oversee general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analysis
- Provide leadership across operational accounting areas, including order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, payroll, inventory, and fixed assets
- Ensure accounting activities comply with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and applicable reporting requirements
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to requests, and maintaining audit-ready processes
- Strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, close procedures, and supporting documentation
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and other stakeholders to resolve accounting and operational issues
- Support a major ERP implementation through process design, testing, documentation, control development, and adoption activities
- Identify opportunities to improve close timelines, reporting quality, data accuracy, workflow efficiency, and scalability
- Provide coaching, review, prioritization, and escalation support to accounting team members
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
- Progressive accounting leadership experience at the Assistant Controller, Director, or comparable level
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, close management, internal controls, and audit support
- Experience in a consumer products, manufacturing, or other inventory-intensive operating environment, including exposure to inventory and cost accounting
- Experience supporting an ERP implementation or significant finance transformation, along with advanced Excel and large-scale accounting systems expertise
