The organization operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with a broad and diverse business footprint. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take on a highly visible leadership role within the corporate accounting organization.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support the corporate accounting organization and play a key role in the company’s consolidated financial close and reporting process.

The Assistant Controller will lead the consolidation process, partnering closely with regional controllers to ensure an accurate, efficient, and timely close. This individual will also oversee the corporate division’s accounting close and day-to-day accounting activities, as well as centralized U.S. accounting functions focused primarily on fixed assets and lease accounting.

This role will lead a team of 5+ accounting professionals and will serve as a key member of the corporate accounting leadership team. The ideal candidate is a strong technical accounting professional and people leader who is comfortable working in a complex, high-volume environment and can operate effectively across multiple business units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the consolidated financial close process, working closely with regional controllers to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient reporting.
  • Coordinate and monitor the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across multiple business units and regions.
  • Manage the corporate division’s accounting close and day-to-day accounting functions.
  • Oversee centralized U.S. accounting activities, with a primary focus on fixed assets and lease accounting.
  • Lead and develop a team of 5+ accounting professionals, providing coaching, direction, and performance management.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversee accounting for leases in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
  • Support the annual external audit process by organizing request fulfillments, preparing supporting documentation, and collaborating with auditors to address accounting and reporting matters.
  • Partner with regional and business-unit controllers to identify and resolve accounting issues impacting the consolidated financial statements.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of consolidated financial reporting and management reporting.
  • Evaluate accounting processes and internal controls and identify opportunities for increased efficiency and standardization.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.
  • Support corporate accounting initiatives, process improvements, and other special projects as needed.
  • Serve as a key accounting resource to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a corporate or multi-entity accounting environment.
  • Prior experience managing and developing accounting professionals.
  • Strong experience with financial consolidations and the month-end close process.
  • Strong technical knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting and centralized accounting functions.
  • Experience working with external auditors and supporting annual financial statement audits.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple business units and collaborate with regional controllers and accounting teams.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and corporate accounting practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
Work Arrangement
  • Hybrid position.
  • Expected to work 2-3 days per week in the East Bay, California.
  • Remaining workdays may be performed remotely.
  • Some flexibility may be required during month-end close, year-end close, and the annual external audit.
Compensation Range: $150,000 - $175,00 (DOE)
