Job summary

John Boner Neighborhood Centers (JBNC) in Indianapolis, IN, seeks an Intake Specialist to be the first point of contact for neighbors seeking services. You will assess needs, provide program information, and connect individuals to internal programs and community resources.

This role supports JBNC’s two-generation approach, requiring empathy, strong communication, and meticulous documentation. On-site, full-time, with a Monday–Friday schedule and a background check.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred or 3–5 years of related experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds with empathy and professionalism.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to assess needs and identify appropriate resources or referrals.
• Basic technology skills and ability to learn systems (Outlook, Teams, databases).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial assessments to understand neighbor needs and determine eligibility for services.
• Collect and maintain accurate, confidential records of interactions and services provided.
• Connect neighbors to internal programs and external community resources.
• Provide clear and helpful information about JBNC services and partner organizations.
• Enter and manage data in internal systems, ensuring accuracy and timely documentation.
• Follow up with neighbors to ensure successful connections to services.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to coordinate referrals.
• Participate in outreach efforts and community events to promote available services.
• Support continuous improvement by contributing to program development and evaluation.
