Job description

An established independent insurance agency is seeking an experienced, licensed Commercial Insurance Agent/Producer to support new business development, account marketing, and commercial renewals. The organization values technical insurance expertise, accurate risk evaluation, strong client relationships, and effective collaboration across its team. This opportunity offers hands‑on involvement throughout the insurance lifecycle, from exposure analysis and market selection through quotation, binding, and ongoing renewal management.

The Commercial Insurance Agent/Producer will be responsible for evaluating commercial risks, preparing complete underwriting submissions, identifying appropriate insurance markets, analyzing quotations, working directly with underwriters, and helping clients secure appropriate coverage while supporting the agency’s existing commercial book of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate new commercial insurance business through prospecting, networking, referrals, and relationship development.
  • Identify prospective clients, evaluate business exposures, and recommend appropriate insurance solutions.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of qualified prospects and consistently pursue opportunities to close new business.
  • Identify suitable insurance markets and collaborate with carriers, underwriters, wholesalers, and MGAs to secure competitive coverage.
  • Analyze insurance quotations, compare coverage options, and negotiate terms to meet client needs.
  • Present proposals to prospective clients, explain coverage recommendations, and guide clients through the sales and binding process.
  • Build long‑term relationships with business owners and decision‑makers to support client retention, referrals, and future growth opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate sales activity and pipeline records while staying current on commercial insurance markets, coverage developments, and underwriting trends.
  • Collaborate with account managers, CSRs, and agency leadership to ensure a smooth transition from new‑business placement to ongoing account servicing.
Required Qualifications
  • 1-5 years of commercial insurance experience preferred, with demonstrated experience in commercial lines production, sales, or business development.
  • Active California Property & Casualty insurance license or appropriate state license.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business, build client relationships, identify opportunities, and move prospects through a sales process.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, policy structures, underwriting requirements, and risk evaluation.
  • Ability to evaluate client exposures, identify potential coverage gaps, and recommend appropriate insurance solutions.
  • Experience working with commercial insurance carriers, underwriters, wholesalers, MGAs, and specialty markets.
  • Ability to interpret insurance quotations and communicate material coverage differences in a clear, client‑focused manner.
  • Familiarity with carrier portals, online rating systems, agency management systems, and CRM or sales pipeline tracking tools.
  • Strong prospecting, negotiation, presentation, relationship‑building, and closing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, judgment, and follow‑through.
  • Ability to manage competing sales priorities, maintain consistent prospect activity, and work toward established production objectives.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and adopt emerging technology while maintaining confidentiality and agency procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically knowledgeable commercial insurance professional seeking ownership of the insurance process, meaningful client relationships, and continued professional development within an established independent agency. The role is suited to someone who can recognize exposures, ask the right questions, identify appropriate markets, and manage accounts from application and marketing through quotation, binding, renewal, and ongoing service.
