Montgomery College is seeking a full-time Surgical Technology faculty member to begin January 2027. The position includes teaching didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses across multiple campuses with options for in-person, online, and hybrid formats, including occasional weekend scheduling.

The candidate must hold a Master’s degree, an accredited Surgical Technology associate degree, and national certification.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Surgical Technology or related field.
  • Associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Must hold national certification as a surgical technologist (NBSTSA) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years in the operating room scrub role or three years as an instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Teach didactic, laboratory, and clinical Surgical Technology courses.
  • Teach 30 semester hours per academic year; possible summer classes.
  • Participate in ARC/STSA accreditation activities.
  • Contribute to program evaluation, curriculum design, and outcomes assessment.
  • Support the program and clinical coordinator; participate in committees and advising.

Job Description

Montgomery College is seeking a n outstanding full-time SurgicalTechnology faculty member to fill a position beginning January2027. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher whoexhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment toour students, and the ability to motivate and educate in anengaging manner. The Surgical Technology program is fullyaccredited by the Accreditation Review Council on Education inSurgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA). Thisposition is part of a collective bargaining unit.

The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in amulti-cultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to workwith students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty dutiesinclude classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development,advising, professional inquiry, committee work and utilizinginstructional technology . The majority of our courses use openeducational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the studentsand the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty willutilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline.

Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such asface-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days,evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple campuses,and faculty may be assigned to teach in-person at any of thesecampuses and teach online.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Teach a variety of didactic, laboratory, and clinical courseswithin the Surgical Technology program.
  • Teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities mayexist to teach summer classes.
  • Participate in ARC/STSA accreditation activities and abide byaccreditation guidelines and standards.
  • Participate in discipline-related activities such as programevaluation, curriculum design, and outcomes assessment andevaluation.
  • Provide support to the program and clinical coordinator asneeded.
  • Faculty members are expected to serve on departmental, campus,and/or college committees, hold office hours, advise students,participate in course and program assessment, and maintain anactive personal program of professional development and continuouslearning.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accreditedinstitution.
  • Must hold the credential of certified surgical technologistfrom a nationalcredentialing organization that is accredited bythe National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) specificallyNational Board on Surgical Assisting and Surgical Assistants(NBSTSA), or Certified Surgical Technologist or joint CertifiedSurgical Technologist/Certified First Assistant.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in theoperating room in a scrub roleorthree (3) years of currentexperience as an instructor of surgical technologyora combinationof both within the past five (5) years.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in instructional methodology,curriculum design, and program planning.
  • Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction using avariety of teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teachingpractices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Experience integrating technology into course deliveryincluding the use of a Learning Management System.
  • Applicants must be able to travel within the DC, Maryland, andVirginia area to visit clinical sites affiliated with theprogram.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in theUnited States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience utilizing high-impact teaching pedagogies to fosterstudent engagement and active learning.
  • Experience supporting students through extracurricularactivities or community outreach.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Placement Processes
  • Evidence of commitment to professional development andscholarly activities.
  • Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academicsuccess.
Hiring Range: $64,510 - $98,220

  • Participation in a retirement plan (Pension or OptionalRetirement Plan, depending on the position). If you are alreadyretired from the Maryland State Retirement System, you may notenroll in a Maryland State Retirement System plan at MontgomeryCollege and may have earnings restrictions, per state law.
