Job summary

St. John's University is seeking an Institutional Research Technical Assistant to support the Office of Institutional Research.

The role focuses on data collection, analysis, reporting, and maintenance of institutional data systems to inform evidence-based decision‑making and policy development. Key duties include creating dashboards, cleansing and validating data, and collaborating with IT on tool development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Education Administration, Social Sciences or equivalent work experience.
1–3 years of related professional experience working with data analysis, reporting, or administrative systems.
Knowledge of databases and querying (e.g., SQL).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling data.
Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
Proven performance with Microsoft Office 365 applications with specific knowledge of Excel and experience with Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and document reports, dashboards, and visualizations for IR to inform planning and policy development.
Cleanses, transforms, and validates data from diverse sources.
Collaborate with IT to develop new tools to improve IR operations.
Maintain existing reporting workflows and implement improvements.
Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across systems.
Prepare and disseminate reports and presentations as needed.
Monitor IR email and respond to data requests in a timely manner.
Maintain the IR website and educate colleagues on data usage.
