Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard is seeking an Inside Machine Shop Specialist in Norfolk, VA to support rigging and machining tasks in the Inside Machine Shop. You will help with setup, operation, and documentation for various processes and ensure safety and quality in daily work.

The role requires hands-on experience with rigging and cranes, reading blueprints, and a collaborative approach. A strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow instructions are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Two years of rigging/overhead crane experience.
• Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade.
• Proficient in reading a Measuring Tape and understanding fractions.
• Able to work effectively with others.
• Able to comprehend and follow instructions.
• Able to multi-task and organize information and assignments.
• Be a steady, reliable worker.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and complete paperwork for stress relief process and equipment reports.
• Set up, operate, and complete paperwork for shot peen process and equipment.
• Set up and install shaft sleeves and backing strips onto shafts for sleeve weld process.
• Set up, operate, and complete paperwork for strain gauge process and equipment.
• Manufacture, preserve, and package marine shaft or related items per MIL-2845E.
• Make precision cuts and drill holes in lumber.
• Perform preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics for shaft sleeves and crates.
• Assist in training helpers/IMS specialists.
• Perform safety inspections of equipment and accessories.
• Identify necessary external repairs to equipment.
• Suggest cost-saving ideas when applicable.
• Understand and act on instructions.
• Work independently to complete responsibilities.
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Learn to operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts.
• Assist IMS in non-machining functions.
• Daily cleanup of work area.
