Job summary

Colonna's Shipyard, Inc. in Norfolk, VA is seeking a 3rd Class Inside Machinist for the 2nd shift. The role involves learning precision machining of shipboard components, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring quality standards in repair and fabrication projects.

The position requires operation of manual machine tools and collaboration with senior technicians to meet production schedules; travel is limited and onsite work is expected in Norfolk.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 1 year of inside machinist experience.
• Basic knowledge of precision machining, blueprint reading, and quality control.
• Familiarity with operating manual machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machine tools to produce or repair metal components.
• Read and interpret basic blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
• Set up and adjust machine tools and cutting equipment for each task.
• Support in the repair and modification of shipboard components such as shafts, bearings, valves, and other mechanical parts.
• Work as part of a team to ensure timely project completion.
