Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. in Norfolk, VA is seeking a skilled Shipfitter to fabricate, assemble, and install structural components aboard ships and in shipyard facilities.

The role demands proficiency in metalworking, welding, and blueprint interpretation to ensure alignment and structural integrity. The position is onsite in Norfolk, VA with potential overtime, limited travel, and the need to support production/operations across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of shipfitting experience in marine/shipyard environment or completion of a registered apprenticeship program.
• Proficient in metalworking, welding, and blueprint interpretation.
• Ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Cut and fabricate metal components using various tools and machinery.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications for layout and assembly.
• Assemble and install bulkheads, frames, and decks with proper alignment.
• Perform welding tasks including FCAW with tack welding in vertical/overhead positions.
• Inspect work to ensure conformance to industry standards and project specs.
• Collaborate with other trades to complete projects on time.
