Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking a Laboratory Hospital Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection, processing and data entry, supporting quality patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities include venipuncture and dermal puncture, accurate specimen labeling, test order entry, communicating results to physicians, and assisting with training. Requires high school diploma; 1 year phlebotomy experience or accredited program; CPR at hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• One year phlebotomy experience or completion of an accredited, structured phlebotomy training program.
• ASCP phlebotomy certification desired.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills required.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work required.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks required.
• Previous customer service experience helpful.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, visitors, family members, physicians, and associates in a courteous, professional manner.
• Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of phlebotomy supplies and materials.
• Train new associates and students from affiliated phlebotomy programs.
• Perform blood collection by venipuncture and dermal puncture following standards.
• Label samples precisely according to policies.
• Enter test orders and patient data into the lab system accurately.
• Provide reports to physicians and nursing units upon request.
• Print daily workflow reports and communicate turnaround delays to supervisor.
• Adhere to policies, confidentiality, and teamwork.
