Job summary

UChicago Medicine seeks a Pharmacy Technician for the Inpatient Pharmacy in Hyde Park to prepare medications and supplies under pharmacist supervision, rotating through all work areas to support direct patient care for diverse populations.

Responsibilities include stocking Omnicell devices, prioritizing STAT orders, and completing annual competencies, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and compliance with policies and regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required and Illinois license to practice as a pharmacy technician.
• ASHP-approved technician program or active student enrollment in College of Pharmacy/UChicago.
• Ability to work collaboratively to deliver optimal patient care.
• Strong communication skills with patients and staff.
• Basic knowledge of pharmacy practices, medications, and supplies.
• Capable of record keeping and performing technician competencies annually.

Responsibilities

• Transport medications and supplies to nursing units and clinics.
• Load patient-specific meds into Omnicell machines and manage stock.
• Assist in all pharmacy areas and perform duties as directed by pharmacist/supervisor.
• Triages phone calls, collects QA data, maintains workload records.
• Prepare medications for dispensing under supervision, including unit doses and IV admixtures.
• Prepare outpatient prescriptions and assist with cashiering in the Outpatient Pharmacy as needed.
• Train new pharmacists and technicians in their tasks.
• Perform other duties assigned.
