Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Chicago's Hyde Park is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II for the Inpatient Pharmacy. You will prepare medications under supervision, rotate through all areas, and support timely distribution to patients of all ages.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• IV room non-hazardous and hazardous compounding required.
• Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or completion of an ASHP approved pharmacy technician vocational course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy or at the University of Chicago.
• Ability to work as a team player to accomplish optimal patient care by providing superior pharmaceutical services.
• Good communication skills to interact with patients and staff.
• Considerable knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures.
• Considerable knowledge of medications and medical supplies.
• Good knowledge of record keeping practices.
• Successful completion of core technician competencies and subsequent yearly competencies.
• Considerable skill in working with attention to detail.
• Considerable verbal communications skills.
• Familiar with computers and keyboard usage.
• Sensitivity to patient care issues as they pertain to the practice of pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Transports medications and supplies to nursing units and clinics; restocks Omnicell machines.
• Replaces CPR cart medications following events; transfers patient-specific meds on discharge.
• Rotates through all work areas, maintains clean and stocked work areas, answers phones.
• Triage phone communications and collects quality assurance data; supports pharmacist and supervisor as needed.
• Prepares medications and supplies for dispensing under pharmacist supervision; prepares IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and pediatric IVs.
• Prepares inventories, orders drugs and supplies and stocks shelves across pharmacy locations.
• Facilitates timely distribution of medications and prioritizes STAT orders when necessary.
• Completes annual technician competencies and complies with policies and laws.
