Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Inpatient Pharmacy in Hyde Park. The role involves preparing medications and supplies for dispensing under pharmacist supervision, with rotation through all pharmacy work areas and coverage of STAT orders as needed.

The position requires an Illinois license, a high school diploma, and at least one year of pharmacy experience or completion of a qualifying technician program.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or completion of an ASHP approved technician course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy or at UChicago Medicine.
• Ability to work as a team player to accomplish optimal patient care.
• Good communication skills to interact with patients and staff.
• Considerable knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures.
• Familiar with computers and keyboard usage.

Responsibilities

• Transports medications and supplies to nursing units and clinics and stocks Omnicell machines.
• Replaces CPR cart medications and transfers patient-specific meds between Omnicell units.
• Rotates through all pharmacy areas and prioritizes STAT orders when needed.
• Triage calls, collect QA data, and maintain workload records as required.
• Prepares medications for dispensing under pharmacist supervision, including unit-dose syringes and IV/chemo preparations.
• Prepares outpatient prescriptions and performs cashiering duties when needed.
• Assists in training new pharmacists and technicians.
