Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking an inpatient medical coder responsible for accurate and timely coding of medical records in accordance with CMS regulations and hospital guidelines. The role focuses on ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, DRG assignments, and adherence to AHIMA standards.

Responsibilities include abstracting data into the 3M encoder and Epic systems, collaborating with the CDI team, and maintaining productivity within established standards while safeguarding PHI.

Qualifications

• Experience coding inpatient records with ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Knowledge of CMS regulations and AHIMA standards.
• Ability to work within deadlines and maintain PHI security.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Reviews low to moderate complex medical records to assign diagnostic ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes according to guidelines.
• Coding technical skills- ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRGs, APR DRGs, ROM, SOI, and POA assignment.
• Abstracts selected data items and enters in 3M encoder/Epic software with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Follows facility query policy and CDI reconciliation process.
• Maintains productivity and quality rate within established standards.
• Collaborates with the Clinical Documentation Integrity Team.
