Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to ensure diagnostic and procedure codes are accurately assigned to inpatient encounters based on documentation in the electronic medical record.

The role requires knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, DRG/APC systems, and AHIMA guidelines, with a focus on compliance, accuracy, and timely coding to support patient care and revenue cycles.

The ideal candidate will have RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials and at least one year of inpatient coding experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of coding classification systems, DRG and APC systems, official coding guidelines and coding compliance.
  • Proficiency with electronic encoder applications and EMR systems.
  • English language skills sufficient for safety-critical communication.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with coding team and stakeholders to ensure accurate coding.
  • Participate in coding section meetings and education sessions.
  • Initiate physician queries to obtain diagnoses/procedures as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of coding quality and compliance with AHIMA guidelines.
  • Code and abstract patient records in accordance with policy and regulatory guidelines.
