Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes based on documentation within the medical record, while adhering to coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.

The role requires at least one year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice/Transition Program, along with an AHIMA credential (RHIT/RHIA/CCS) and CAHIIM-accredited education. Strong communication and EMR proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

  • One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program or transition program.
  • Associate degree or higher in a CAHIIM-accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Must have one of RHIT, RHIA or CCS certification.
  • Proficiency in English for safety and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Code inpatient encounters accurately using ICD-10-CM/PCS.
  • Maintain compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
  • Query physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures.
  • Collaborate with coding team and stakeholders and participate in meetings.
  • Review documentation in EMR and imaging systems to determine principal/secondary diagnoses and procedures.
  • Ensure timely productivity and contribute to AR goals.
