Job summary

Memorial Hermann in Houston is seeking a Coding Specialist to review inpatient records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for reimbursement and compliance. You will work to ensure data quality and coding specificity while supporting patient care and regulatory requirements.

The role requires strong analytical abilities, knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology, and excellent communication skills to interact with clinicians and staff across departments.

Qualifications

• Inpatient hospital coding experience required.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCA/CCS/CIC certifications preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in medical terminology and anatomy.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical records to identify diagnoses/procedures needing code assignment.
• Assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient records for reimbursement and compliance.
• Queries physicians when documentation is unclear to ensure coding specificity.
• Maintains high accuracy and productivity; adheres to coding guidelines.
• Keeps up with AHIMA/AAPC standards and internal policies.
