Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Outpatient Coder to ensure accurate assignment of diagnostic and procedure codes for outpatient, ER, therapy, and clinic encounters based on documentation in the EMR. The role requires knowledge of ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT coding, along with adherence to AHIMA and coding guidelines.

Non-exempt position with responsibilities spanning data abstraction, code assignment, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in an AHIMA accredited program or equivalent experience
• Minimum 1 year outpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program
• AHIMA/AAPC certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, CPC-A, CCC, COC are expected/required

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes for outpatient, ER, therapy and clinic encounters
• Query physicians to obtain/clarify diagnoses or procedures using established processes
• Maintain coding quality and comply with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines
