Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder responsible for assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes to inpatient encounters based on documentation in the electronic medical record, ensuring accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines.

Ideal candidates will hold an AHIMA credential (RHIT, RHIA or CCS) and have one year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice/Transition Program, with strong English communication and proficiency in EMR systems.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in CAHIIM accredited program or additional two years of experience in lieu of degree
• One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program or Transition Program
• Must have RHIT, RHIA or CCS certification

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient encounters accurately using ICD-10-CM/PCS based on documentation in the EHR.
• Query physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures.
• Maintain coding quality and compliance with AHIMA guidelines.
• Collaborate with coding team and stakeholders to ensure timely coding and data accuracy.
