Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking an inpatient coding specialist to analyze physician documentation in inpatient health records, assign diagnoses and procedures, and determine MS-DRG/APR DRG, POA, SOI and ROM indicators to support accurate hospital reimbursement.

You will review records, use encoder software, collaborate with CDS and HIM teams, adhere to coding standards, and maintain credentialing CEUs while keeping up with changing guidelines.

Qualifications

• Completion of AHIMA-approved coding program or Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS certification is required.
• Three (3) years of current acute care or inpatient coding experience.
• Extensive knowledge of MS-DRG, APR DRG, POA, SOI & ROM assignments.

Responsibilities

• Analyze inpatient health records to assign ICD codes, MS-DRG, APR DRGs, POA, SOI & ROM indicators.
• Identify HACs and PSIs to support accurate hospital reimbursement.
• Code inpatient records using encoder software and online references.
• Consult with physicians/CDS for clarification on documentation as needed.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity standards.
