Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to ensure accurate diagnostic and procedure coding for inpatient encounters based on documentation in the EMR. The role requires adherence to coding guidelines and regulatory standards.

Qualified candidates will have an associate degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program, or equivalent experience, plus one year of inpatient coding experience and professional credentials (RHIT/RHIA/CCS). Strong communication and EMR skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program or additional two years of experience in lieu of degree.
• One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist coding apprentice/transition program.
• Must have one of RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credentials.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient encounters accurately according to guidelines.
• Review documentation and query physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures.
• Collaborate with coding team to meet quality and productivity standards.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and AHIMA standards.
