Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder responsible for assigning accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes based on documentation within the EHR, while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines. The role requires collaboration with clinicians and coding teams to support accurate billing.

Candidates should have an AD with CAHIIM accreditation or equivalent experience, plus 1 year inpatient coding experience and AHIMA credentials (RHIT, RHIA, or CCS).

Qualifications

• Associate degree (CAHIIM-accredited) or 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
• 1 year inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice/Transition Program.
• Must have AHIMA credential: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS.

Responsabilités

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient encounters from documentation in the EHR.
• Maintain compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory rules.
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures when needed.
• Collaborate with coding team and other stakeholders to ensure coding accuracy.
• Review documentation and abstracts data into the encoder/EHR to determine principal/secondary diagnoses.
• Adhere to OHIMA/AHIMA standards and hospital policies.
