Job summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is seeking a Special Education Teacher for our Alternative Education program in Illinois. You will lead instructional processes for Elementary School students with IEPs, designing personalized learning experiences within the learning center and/or classroom.

Deliver targeted instruction, integrating curriculum resources and educational software to meet diverse needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or closely related field.
• IL professional educator license in process (PEL).
• IL state special education (SSE) or learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential in process.
• Crisis management training certification.
• Experience with curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in alternative/special education settings.
• Experience with IEPs and compliance for students with disabilities.
• Proficiency with educational software and instructional technology.

Responsibilities

• Create inclusive, collaborative classroom environments involving students, parents, colleagues and administrators.
• Establish PBIS-based climate with clear expectations and social development focus.
• Implement school-wide and classroom PBIS strategies and rewards.
• Track and document student progress and generate reports detailing achievements.
• Deliver differentiated instruction individually or in co-teaching to meet IEP goals.
• Adapt curricula to diverse learning styles and guide staff on differentiation methods.
• Utilize varied instructional methods and software to support diverse needs.
• Manage student caseload, develop/update IEPs, and implement interventions.
• Prepare daily lesson plans and organize materials aligned to standards.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming classroom and manage resources efficiently.
• Stay informed on evidence-based practices in special education.
• Respond to feedback and pursue ongoing professional growth.
• Support school community with additional duties as assigned.
