Job summary

Pennington County Jail is seeking a Booking Technician to manage inmate intake/outtake and control room operations. You will handle inmate accounts, process transactions, and provide courteous service to inmates, visitors, and partners.

The role requires accuracy, security compliance, and the ability to multitask in a busy jail environment. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential for daily operations.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Two years’ experience with financial accounts, security systems, or handling confidential information.
• Preference for work in the court or criminal justice system.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid South Dakota driver’s license within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to inmates, visitors, professionals and public service partners.
• Control movement within the secure side of the facility, including inmates, visitors and staff.
• Serve as the last line of defense in the secure control room during major incidents.
• Monitor security cameras for officer and inmate safety.
• Enter and release inmate property.
• Manage inmate money accounts, deposits/withdrawals and bond/fee payments.
• Serve as primary contact for public and professional inquiries (clerk of courts, attorneys, probation, etc.).
• Verify intake and release information (ID, charges, holds).
• Attend trainings/meetings as required.
• Perform related duties and maintain county policies.
