Job summary

The Town of Wendell seeks an Inspector to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards for Town infrastructure projects. You will perform site visits, review test reports, and maintain documentation to support final acceptance by the Town.

Responsibilities include evaluating subgrade prep, asphalt/concrete placement, and storm drain work; monitoring project phases; and preparing detailed inspection reports for dispersion to stakeholders. A valid NC driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED and considerable experience in local government infrastructure inspections, construction, or related field.
• An associate’s degree in engineering technology, construction management, or related field is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate infrastructure work using construction inspection standards (subgrade prep, asphalt/concrete placement, storm drain installation) to meet specifications.
• Monitor all project phases: pre-construction, utility coordination, roadbuilding, post-construction inspections.
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate field documents in the work-order system and Inspections Portal.
• Conduct compaction testing for new developments and track concrete strength/asphalt densities.
• Provide guidance to contractors and participate in continuing education and professional development.
