Job summary

Duties

If selected for this position, you will be responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving Litigation Support and two or more other Information Technology specialty areas which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office. Typical work assignments will include:


Requirements
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications
Individuals must meet both:
  • The Basic Requirement through either A. Experience or B. Education; AND
  • The specialized experience described below.
  • 1. Basic Requirements:
    A. Experience - Experience that demonstrated each of the four competencies below; the experience must be IT-related. Experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, certification), as appropriate.
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • B. Education:
    GS-7: Education: Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate level education in related field to Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management; leading to a master's degree OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR possess abachelor's degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months with superior academic achievement. Superior academic achievement is as follows: standing in the upper third of your graduating class or major subdivision OR membership in one of the national scholastic honor Societies; OR Grade Point Average. Applicants must have a grade point average of: (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.

    GS-9: Education: Master's or equivalent degree related to Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

    GS-11: Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

    In additional to the basic requirements above, applicants must meet the specialized experience identified below:

    GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following:
    Specialized Experience: You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service. Specialized Experience:One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing routine support for computer information systems; and troubleshooting routine and/or recurring hardware and software problems.

    GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following:
    Specialized Experience: You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as assessing service and information requirements needed to complete automated litigation support services. This would include administration and maintenance of case evidence databases utilizing industry standard software such as Relativity, Everlaw, or something similar; electronic data acquisition and processing; pre-trial preparation including creation of audio and video clips as well as other exhibit formats, and courtroom presentations.

    GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet one of the following:
    Specialized Experience: You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. Specializedexperience is defined as assessing service and information requirements needed to complete automated litigation support services. Experience with technology and procedures commonly used in litigation proceedings, including the following: collection, analysis and processing of Electronic Discovery Data utilizing industry standard software such as LAW Pre-Discovery, Nuix eDiscovery Workstation, or something similar. Administration and maintenance of case evidence databases utilizing industry standard software such as Relativity, Everlaw, or something similar; testing, configuring, installing, maintaining, and controlling litigation support equipment resources; training others on utilizing litigation support technology to organize voluminous case information and familiarity and experience working with a variety of audio and video evidence formats such as video surveillance and Police body-cam footage.
