Job summary

OmniSource, a Steel Dynamics, Inc. subsidiary, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to inspect, repair, and maintain shredding equipment and related systems to keep the auto shredder operation running efficiently.

You will read schematics, troubleshoot hydraulics and electrical issues, perform preventative maintenance, and respond to emergencies while following lockout/tagout and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining industrial machinery, preferably shredders or similar heavy‑duty equipment.
• Ability to read schematics, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Welding and fabrication skills; arc weld with stick and MIG.
• Must operate maintenance vehicles safely and follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Responsibilities

• Regularly inspect shredder components like hammers, grates and liners for wear and tear, lubricate moving parts, check hydraulic systems.
• Perform scheduled maintenance tasks according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and diagnose mechanical issues with the shredder.
• React to emergency breakdowns and minimize downtime.
• Assist with installation of utilities and equipment.
• Adhere to safety protocols, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
