Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake (VOAC) is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support people enrolled in VOAC programs, living in VOAC-operated homes in Arlington, VA. Responsibilities include teaching independent living skills, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring safety and well-being in accordance with the Scope of Work and VOAC policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities field; exceptions possible with enhanced supervision until year is obtained.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred, but may be required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass state trainings and orientation; maintain CMS or relevant governmental trainings/certifications.
• Clear written and verbal communication; pass background checks and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to meet IDT-identified needs.
• Communicate with families, IDT members, and program staff as needed.
• Assist with daily living activities (household tasks, meals, grooming).
• Help develop daily living skills and independence.
• Ensure safety, document activities, and maintain records as required.
