Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings. Under supervision, you will support daily living skills, meal planning, and community integration, while ensuring safety and well-being within PCP guidelines.

You will document activities, participate in team planning, and assist with medication administration when needed.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities or related field; exceptions possible with enhanced supervision.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred, may be required by end of introductory period.
• Must complete trainings and maintain required certifications.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication; strong problem-solving ability.
• Pass local and state background checks and drug testing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to people with IDD.
• Assist with daily living tasks and home management.
• Support participation in community activities and social events.
• Monitor medications and assist individuals to take medications safely.
• Complete documentation in the electronic record system daily.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
