Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas is seeking Direct Support Professionals to assist individuals in programs and homes. DSPs support daily living activities, community integration, and safety under VOAC policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include teaching living skills, coordinating with the IDT, and providing personal care while maintaining documentation and participating in training and meetings as required.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disability field; exceptions may apply with enhanced supervision.
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred, but may be required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass all state trainings and new hire orientation; maintain required certifications.
• Written and verbal communication skills must be clear and professional.
• Pass relevant background checks and drug testing requirements; bilingualism is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to meet needs identified by the IDT.
• Communicate with families and members of the IDT and day program staff.
• Assist with household tasks such as cleaning and meal prep as per ISP.
• Help people develop daily living skills and independence.
• Assist with grooming and personal care routines.
• Implement crisis prevention interventions as trained and specified.
