Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas seeks Direct Support Professionals to assist individuals in VOAC-operated homes, teaching independent living skills and supporting daily activities.

DSPs promote safety and community integration while following VOAC policies. A high school diploma or GED is required, with at least 1 year in this field; state trainings and orientation are mandatory, and bilingual abilities are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• One year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities, with exceptions for enhanced supervision.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred but may be required by the end of introductory period.
• Must pass state trainings and orientation; maintain required trainings.
• Computer skills required for documentation; clear and professional communication.
• Background checks and drug testing required; bilingual in any language is aPlus.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to meet IDT-identified needs.
• Communicate with families, IDT members, and day program staff.
• Assist with household tasks (cooking, cleaning, shopping).
• Help develop daily living skills and independence.
• Assist with grooming, personal care, and safety.
