Job summary

CRST The Transportation Solution, Inc. is seeking a Fleet Manager to lead day-to-day operations for an independent contractor fleet on the Flatbed Solutions team in Birmingham, AL.

You will build strong contractor relationships, ensure on-time freight movement, and maintain DOT compliance. Join a team focused on safety, service, and profitability, collaborating with Planning, Safety, Maintenance, and other partners to optimize performance and contractor success in a fast-paced logistics

Qualifications

• Experience in transportation, logistics, or contractor management.
• Ability to influence outcomes and build strong working relationships without direct authority.
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations and independent contractor operations.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with independent contractors, serving as their primary point of contact.
• Coordinate freight movement by assigning loads, monitoring progress, and ensuring service commitments are met.
• Communicate proactively with contractors and internal teams to resolve issues and minimize service disruptions.
• Monitor contractor compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and contractual requirements.
• Review settlements, billing, and chargeable events to ensure financial accuracy and protect profitability.
• Partner with Planning, Safety, Maintenance, and other departments to support contractor success and operational efficiency.
• Coach contractors through performance, service, and safety challenges while promoting long-term engagement and retention.
