Job summary

CRST The Transportation Solution, Inc. in Birmingham, AL is seeking an Equipment Manager to anticipate trailer needs, spot issues before they impact operations, and coordinate across departments to keep the trailer fleet positioned and utilized efficiently.

You will assign trailers to contractors based on demand, maintain trailer pools, monitor utilization and expenses, and provide regular updates on fleet status, costs, and areas of concern to support growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Assign trailers to contractors based on operational needs.
• Maintain appropriate trailer pools across CRST locations and markets.
• Monitor trailer utilization and identify opportunities to reduce idle or underutilized equipment.
• Coordinate trailer movements and positioning to support operational needs and contractor demand.
• Work closely with Operations, Fleet Managers, and other departments to ensure trailers are available where and when needed.
• Monitor and manage trailer-related expenses, identifying opportunities to control and reduce costs.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer locations, status, utilization, and associated expenses.
• Track trailer availability and downtime and work with the appropriate departments to minimize the operational impact of unavailable equipment.
• Assist with decisions regarding trailer purchases, rentals, transfers, and disposition.
• Ensure equipment-related processes and documentation are followed consistently.
• Provide regular updates and reporting on trailer fleet status, costs, utilization, and areas of concern.
• Support the continued growth of the fleet by developing efficient processes for managing an expanding equipment base.
