Job summary

CRST The Transportation Solution in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Safety Supervisor to lead our safety programs within the Flatbed Solutions unit. You will partner with independent contractors, agents, and operations teams to promote safe, compliant operations and to deliver training, evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The role focuses on coaching, inspections, and field assessments to identify risks and drive corrective actions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in transportation safety, fleet operations, regulatory compliance, training, or a related field.
• Experience in open deck load securement and with permitted over-dimensional size and weight freight.
• Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, Hours of Service (HOS), and transportation safety requirements.
• Ability to review safety information, identify risks, document findings, and follow up.
• Ability to deliver training and work with independent contractors and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safety orientation and recurring training for independent contractors, agents, trainers, and support teams.
• Review inspections, incidents, and safety information to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Communicate safety, regulatory, contractual, and operating requirements while coordinating follow-up activities.
• Conduct safety observations, ride-alongs, operating evaluations, and field assessments.
• Inspect equipment, loads, freight securement, yards, facilities, and operational areas for safety concerns.
• Maintain training, inspection, qualification, and compliance documentation.
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Compliance, independent contractors, agents, and support teams to promote consistent safety practices.
• Recommend practical improvements to training, communication, equipment, and operating practices based on safety findings.
• Review and provide guidance on open deck cargo securement and permitted over-dimensional loads.
