Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Operations Counsel to provide in‑house legal and regulatory advice on mortgage servicing and origination topics. You will draft contracts, policies, and forms, and interface with regulators as needed.

The role focuses on mortgage servicing documentation, regulatory trends, and ensuring compliance with federal/state requirements. Strong research, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently and with cross‑functional teams

Qualifications

1–3 years of professional experience in the area of specialization (mortgage servicing law).
Direct experience with residential mortgage servicing regulations, compliance, and documentation.
Familiarity with Regulation X (RESPA) and Regulation Z (TILA).

Responsibilities

Facilitate business objectives by providing timely legal support while minimizing exposure and risk.
Provide practical, high‑quality legal counsel to divisions with focus on mortgage servicing docs and regulatory compliance.
Research federal/state mortgage servicing laws to ensure documents remain compliant.
Review and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms for accuracy and regulatory alignment.
Monitor legislative/regulatory changes and assess impact on servicing docs/systems.
Collaborate with operations, product, tech, and compliance to address documentation questions and implement changes.
Engage with clients' legal/compliance contacts to resolve servicing questions.
