Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Counsel to provide in-house legal and regulatory support focused on mortgage servicing documentation and compliance. You will interpret federal and state requirements, draft and review servicing documents, and advise operations on regulatory changes.

The role requires a law degree, US bar admission, and 1–3 years of relevant experience, with collaboration across operations, product, and compliance teams in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • Law degree and US bar admission.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in mortgage servicing regulations, compliance, and documentation.
  • Experience with Regulation X (RESPA) and Regulation Z (TILA) and investor requirements.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and effective legal support to mortgage servicing divisions while minimizing legal exposure.
  • Advise on mortgage servicing documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Research federal and state mortgage servicing laws and investor requirements.
  • Review and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on processes and documents.
  • Collaborate with operations, product, technology, and compliance teams.
  • Research and resolve mortgage servicing questions with clients' legal contacts.
