Job summary

First American is seeking an Associate Operations Counsel to provide in-house legal support focused on mortgage servicing documentation and regulatory compliance. You will research federal and state laws, review and develop servicing documents, and help implement regulatory changes across divisions.

The role requires a law degree and US bar admission, with 1–3 years of relevant experience. Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams are essential.

Qualifications

  • J.D. required and admitted to practice law in the US.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in mortgage servicing regulation or related area.
  • Familiarity with RESPA (Reg X) and TILA (Reg Z) and related requirements.
  • Experience researching, reviewing, or developing mortgage servicing documents.
  • Ability to translate complex regulations into practical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely legal support to divisions while minimizing risk.
  • Counsel on mortgage servicing documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Research federal/state mortgage servicing laws and investor requirements.
  • Review and maintain mortgage servicing documents and forms.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise on impact to processes.
  • Collaborate with operations, product, technology, and compliance teams.
  • Research and resolve servicing questions with clients' legal contacts.
