Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice serves Omaha and surrounding Nebraska areas with in-home hospice and euthanasia veterinary services. This role offers autonomy, meaningful relationships with families, and the time to practice compassionate end-of-life care in a home setting.

As a mobile veterinarian, you will travel to client homes, provide palliative care and compassionate euthanasia, and support families through difficult decisions while upholding Heartstrings' values—Compassion, Dignity, and Respect.

Qualifications

• DVM, VMD, BVMS, or equivalent from an accredited program.
• Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services are provided.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel to in-home visits.
• Ability to work independently as a mobile veterinarian with Heartstrings support.
• Strong communication with empathy during end-of-life conversations.
• Willingness to participate in rotational weekend scheduling.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with weights up to 100 pounds.
• Background and motor vehicle record checks will be conducted.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, and compassionate euthanasia.
• Travel independently to scheduled appointments in a mobile veterinary care setting.
• Perform examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia as appropriate.
• Educate families on quality-of-life decisions and end-of-life options.
• Maintain accurate medical records for each encounter.
• Communicate professionally with families, Heartstrings team, scheduling, and referrals.
• Safely handle and assist with movement of companion animals.
• Maintain professionalism and clinical independence while in the field.
• Demonstrate Heartstrings' Compassion. Dignity. Respect in all interactions.
