Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice offers in-home pet hospice, palliative care, and compassionate euthanasia, allowing veterinarians to practice medicine with autonomy in clients’ homes across the Omaha, Papillion and Bennington areas. This role supports compassionate end-of-life care with a focus on family-centered decisions.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree.
  • Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel between scheduled in-home appointments.
  • Ability to work independently in a mobile veterinary setting.
  • Strong empathy during end-of-life conversations.
  • Willingness to participate in rotational weekend scheduling.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Background and motor vehicle record checks required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, and compassionate euthanasia services within your assigned service area.
  • Independently travel to scheduled appointments and practice in a mobile veterinary care environment.
  • Perform examinations, clinical assessments, medications, sedation, euthanasia, and related services within veterinary regulations.
  • Educate families on quality-of-life decisions and end-of-life care options.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each encounter.
  • Communicate professionally with families, the Heartstrings team, and referring veterinarians.
  • Safely handle and assist with movement of companion animals during in-home appointments.
  • Maintain professionalism, clinical independence, and sound medical judgment in the field.
