Job summary

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring In-Home Hospice and Euthanasia Veterinarians to serve pet families across Omaha, Papillion & Bennington, Nebraska areas. If you seek autonomy, meaningful relationships with families, and time to provide compassionate end-of-life care at home, this role offers a different way to practice.

This position involves travel to client homes, performing in-home hospice services, palliative care, quality-of-life support, and euthanasia with empathy and clinical judgment.

Qualifications

  • DVM, VMD, BVMS, or equivalent degree from an accredited program.
  • Active veterinary license in the state(s) where services are provided.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel to in-home appointments.
  • Ability to work independently in a mobile veterinary setting.
  • Strong empathy and professionalism during end-of-life conversations.
  • Willingness to participate in rotational weekend scheduling.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle animals safely.
  • Background and motor vehicle record checks required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, and euthanasia in your service area.
  • Travel independently to scheduled appointments in a mobile veterinary setting.
  • Perform physical exams, assessments, medication administration, sedation, and euthanasia.
  • Guide families through quality-of-life decisions with empathy and clear communication.
  • Maintain accurate medical records for each patient encounter.
  • Communicate professionally with families, Heartstrings team, and referring veterinarians.
  • Safely handle and move companion animals during appointments.
  • Maintain professionalism and clinical independence while in the field.
  • Demonstrate Heartstrings’ commitments to Compassion, Dignity, Respect.
