Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to lead swimming classes and motivate students in a community-focused setting.

You will build authentic relationships with students and parents, follow YMCA guidelines, maintain records, and participate in trainings to ensure safety and program quality. This on-site role emphasizes communication, teamwork, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification.
• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent).
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines using prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages involvement and volunteers.
• Communicates information on aquatics programs and schedules; refers to other programs as needed.
• Completes required staff orientation, including bloodborne pathogens and child abuse prevention.
• Maintains attendance and progress records.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows YMCA policies and safety procedures; completes incident reports as needed.
• Organizes class equipment and reports damaged items.
• Complies with safety, cleanliness, and COVID-19 prevention standards.
• Assists in other areas and completes projects as assigned by supervisor.
