Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking an enthusiastic Swim Lesson Instructor to lead classes and motivate students to develop water safety skills.

You will build authentic relationships with families, follow YMCA lesson plans, and ensure a safe, welcoming aquatic environment.

Required certifications include YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor; BLS/First Aid; and the ability to work with children and communities.

Qualifications

• Must hold current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification.
• If Red Cross WSI, must crossover to YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor within 180 days.
• ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification required; may be from ARC/AHA/NSC.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages involvement.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; refers to other programs.
• Completes staff orientation including bloodborne pathogens and child abuse prevention.
• Maintains attendance and progress records.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Follows YMCA safety procedures; completes incident reports as needed.
• Organizes class equipment; reports damaged items.
• Adheres to COVID-19 safety standards.
• Assists supervisor with projects and assignments.
