Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the community and is the nation’s lead provider of swim lessons. This position provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

The Swim Lesson Instructor will deliver lessons per YMCA guidelines, build relationships with students and parents, maintain records, and ensure safety in a busy aquatic environment.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification.
• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent).
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills and be at least 16 years old.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines using prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents and encourages involvement.
• Maintains records (attendance, progress) and participates in trainings.
• Follows YMCA policies and safety procedures and completes incident/accident reports as needed.
• Organizes class equipment and ensures safety and cleanliness.
